That's why they had pulled her up from J.V. to Varsity a full year early, and Adora knew, in the back of her mind, that somehow she was being raised, all along, for this. Weaver always said that she had great potential, but none of that would've started without Catra.
But, the thing. She was going to be captain. Catra may or may not be her co-captain, but she was going to be there, by her side regardless. And that's what she wanted, right? To be captain, to call all the shots, to make Shadow Weaver proud.

“It’s not that funny!”
Adam clutches his sides, and Adora can practically see his diaphragm shaking. “Oh my gods, ‘Dor, it really, really is.”
The conversation had started out well enough. Adora had mentioned she was going to bring a girl to his wedding if he was okay with it. Adam had said of course it was okay, and then for some reason mentioned how proud he was of her for figuring herself out. Adora quickly clarified that she was not, in fact, gay, and that’s when the laughing had started.

Adora loves her family. She really does. But they can be a little homophobic at times. So Adora comes up with the perfect plan: she's going to bring a woman to her brother's wedding. And who better than Catra, from her rugby team? After all, Catra is... basically perfect. If Adora were into women, it would totally make sense that she'd be into Catra. She's just an ally, obviously, but like... even Adora knows Catra would be a great girlfriend.
This prank is going to be perfect.

“Hooking up?” And then Adora just can’t stop, “Oh, no, I’m not hooking up. I mean. I have, but not now. Not, uh, a thing I do really. Um...yeah.”
Catra is kind enough to try to hold back her smile.
“Well, you just made this super awkward,” she breathes out. “I was gonna ask if your friend was single. You're hot and all. But every word out of your mouth has been a total bummer, not gonna lie.”
Adora has died and gone to lesbian hell. She always knew it would come to this.
__Adora Gray's life is on track, just the way she likes it – ever steady, no surprises. And then Catra Morgan crashes her birthday party and turns everything upside down by dating her best friend Glimmer and making Adora fall for her.
That's fine! Adora is not panicked at all, thank you very much. She has some detailed, multi-step plans to ignore her growing feelings and navigate this all. But Catra, and her past, have a pesky tendency of showing up and throwing everything for a loop.

“Could I get your number?” they ask, as if they’re not still a completely faceless enigma that’s been making one-sided passes for two weeks now.
“So I’m supposed to exchange messages with someone who I wouldn’t even be able to pick out of a police lineup if this ends up being just a long con to get me to join a cult?”
To her shock, they place an elbow on the bar, lean over, and lower the hood.
“Does this increase my chances?” they ask with a goofy smile.
They're cute. Like 90s teen drama cute. Like Catra could see them singing fucking annoying pop songs outside her window cute. That’s not good. This person is absolutely trouble.
“Fuck,” Catra breathes out. It kinda feels like someone just kicked her right in the gut in a thrilling way. “You couldn’t have the decency to make this easier by being ugly?”
Catra finally meets the woman of her dreams/nightmares, a goofball blonde with big captain save-a-ho energy. She's easy going, gets Catra's jokes, and likes her band, even though it's pretty shitty and Catra's sabotaging them from the inside. It's just a shame that the girl is already competing on a reality show for 20 women's hearts.

"There is one final thing." Adora trails off, unsure how to word the request—she’s never asked for something so selfish. She feels her allies stiffen at her back.
"What more could you Eternians possibly want?" Queen C'yra's voice is rude, vitriol oozing into every syllable. Her chest heaves as she tries to collect herself.
Adora points directly at the fiercest warrior the Magicats have, all fire and brimstone on the battlefield. She can't imagine leaving her behind, locked away in this tiny fiefdom.
"I want her," Adora states simply. There are murmurs of outrage throughout the room.
"My daughter? As your slave?" The Queen hisses from her belly a deep sound that would have intimidated most. Adora rolls her eyes at the mischaracterization. She looks at who she now knows is the Princess, she would clearly never be a slave to any mortal.
"No obviously not. I would not insult you that way, your majesty. I meant as my mate. You do have mates here in Halfmoon?"
