Author Mike Wheeler is renowned for his adventurous coming-of-age stories that are found on the shelves of any Young Adult section of a bookstore - whether it be in a bustling city or the quiet, closed-knit community of Hawkins, Indiana. Lucas shakes his head. El pushes the door back behind her and approaches, taking her place in the empty chair. She moves the same way he does— like she’s barely awake, just going through the motions. Lucas can’t help staring as she reaches forward and wraps her hand around Max’s fingers, running her thumb over the cast and scanning every bit of her unresponsive face. She looks how he feels, too. They both do.
