As Darcy returns to the kitchen to collect the remaining mugs, she catches his eye and gives him an encouraging smile. In response Loki’s lips curl upward involuntarily, the desire to kiss her senseless sending a pang of longing through his chest. Forcing his attention back to the matter at hand, Loki finds Fandral appraising him shrewdly.
“You know this is madness, my friend,” he warns, genuine sympathy adding salt to his lacerating words. “Better to end this quickly. You do no favors by drawing this out. It's time to come home.”

"Marshmallows?" Loki inquired.
"Yeah, I guess they're candy? But they're fluffy and chewy and-"
"I know what a marshmallow is." Loki cut her off. "It's just… It's a strange thing to worry about given the circumstances."
"Circumstances?" She chewed on the word. "You mean the Snap? Everyone going poof?"
He merely nodded in response.
Darcy sighed."Look. I know it's been like… zero time for you, but it's been a couple of weeks for me and everyone else. The first three days I spent in a continual depression nap which I was able to shake myself out of only when I was given something to do, which was what you found me doing up on the roof. And that's just been the MO for me and most of the people around here since then. I focus on little things because if I focus on big things I'm going to unravel like a cheap Christmas sweater. And I can't do anything about the big stuff anyway. But I can help look for people who can do something about the big stuff. And I can give you marshmallows in your hot chocolate. That is, if you want marshmallows in your hot chocolate."

Darcy has no home. She wanders the streets and sleeps where she can, always dodging danger. Until she finds the house in the park. At first it seems like a safe haven, but that security soon turns to fear, for the house is haunted by an invisible, potentially homicidal ghost.

“I suppose that’s one good thing, at least.”
The child’s hums mid-drink. “Hm?”
“The branched timelines,” Loki clarifies. “There’s certainly one out there where he never gets pruned at all. Maybe he gets off the planet he isolated himself on, and he makes it back to… wherever his brother is.”
The child scoffs. “Yeah, it’ll only take a couple thousand years.”
Loki pauses.
It’s not so much an idea, really, just an inkling. At least until he takes the TemPad out of his pocket, staring down at the little device and tapping his fingers against it as he thinks. He’d only brought it as a means of escape, should he ever gather his strength enough to be willing to head back to the TVA and fix any of this, but…
“Well, maybe not.”
(Or, Loki and Kid Loki decide to honor the old man by giving him a better future. It ends up being exactly what they both needed.)
