Summary
Oddly specific AUs serve the double purpose of immersion into an area of experience perhaps previously unfamiliar to the reader and that of marvelling at the fact you can place a character in any context and figure out how they'd dance around.
The purpose of this study is to expand the scope of dirkjake by a slight but non negligible margin with one such specific AU, as well as a few rare friendship matchups of interest to the author.

“It’s the way it’s always been”, Yoshiki quietly replied, his calmness betraying the way his fingers gripped the mechanical pen.
“What about you?”, he kept going, his inherited impatience from Hikaru shining through as his body stood up and hurried towards Yoshiki. Unphased by the widened expression looking up at him, Hikaru dropped the thin papers on top of their homework, pointing at the pretty red and pink heart-shaped chocolate boxes. “Would ya’ like it? If someone gave you something like this? Do ya’ want this kinda’ romance too?”

Amazing yoshikaru pic. I teared up when Yoshiki was processing receiving the flowers even. It's beautiful, so well-written and it made me go "this person gets it".

“I do like him,” Aldo said automatically, twirling the stem of his wine glass, looking into its deep red like it was a scrying mirror.
“I mean as a friend. If you spent more time with him. You have a lot in common.”
“Do we use the same shampoo?” asked Aldo, raising an eyebrow. Thomas gave him a warning look but his mouth was tugging up.
“You’re both stubborn,” he said bluntly.

Cardinals like Thomas Lawrence and Aldo Bellini know all too well how slowly things move within the walls of the Vatican. But with Vincent Benítez's election cracking their world open, and the new Pope cutting away the old branches to make room for the new, both find that change is flooding in everywhere, mostly within themselves.

Amazing pic where Thomas acts as a tour guide to Rome for Vincent, they meet when he is appointed Cardinal in secret. This pic is so lovely and it has such a wanderlust in it, I want to visit Rome wth...
It's electric in how they connect in such a short time, create memories, but have to be separated and go back to their lives... I feel insane -

Reality where Tremblay won the papacy. After having spent years together in a refugee camp and growing closer, Vincent gets elected pope and him and Thomas must be separated.
It spans so many years and it introduces so many characters that are not in canon it is creating a whole new universe in my head tbh. It's so earnest and so good! -

Aziraphale bursts out, “what do you need me to do? I’ve already admitted that you were right. And that I was wrong. Do you need me to — shall I do a little dance for you?”
That, at least, gets Crowley to open his eyes, a curious eyebrow hiking up into his forehead.
What on Earth would a dance even do?
Besides, everyone knows that angels don’t dance.
Aziraphale seems to take that as encouragement, though, and quickly pushes himself to his feet.
Five times that Aziraphale did the I Was Wrong dance, and one time that Crowley stopped him.
