Sometimes things don't work out.
Sometimes the person who you thought was the one for you turns into the person you can't stand to be in the same room with for five seconds. Eddie never thought he'd be this way with Steve though. He thought that what they had would be able to withstand anything. And it was that way. Until they grew up.
Sometimes things don’t work out, sure, but sometimes you also have to fight tooth and nail to make sure they do.
And Eddie is ready to fight for Steve.
Or, Eddie and Steve broke up, but Eddie learns how to fight for who he loves

Eddie lays his head on Steve’s shoulder and takes in a breath. “I can’t believe it’s over.”
“Yeah, I know…” Steve says and he turns to Eddie, whispering, “We’re married.”
“No more living in sin,” Eddie pouts.
“Y’know, not a lot is going to change. We’re still us. Like,” Steve starts and jumps off the couch to their duffle bags, “Oooh, we’re unpacking. But married.”

Summary
Wayne Munson isn’t the first person to come to mind when someone thinks “kid friendly.”
He likes kids well enough, just hasn’t been around them much. The most experience he had was with Eddie, but he was already half grown when he arrived at Wayne’s doorstep at thirteen. So, suffice to say, Wayne doesn’t know what to do with the twin tornadoes that are Steve and Eddie’s daughters.
Or, Wayne moves in with Eddie and his family, and learns that home is where the heart is.

“Y’know, Steve, you don’t have to go all the way to Indy for…” Eddie says, mimicking the same gesture Steve used earlier.
Steve looks at Eddie, eyes searching his face. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. I can probably think of someone here in Hawkins,” Eddie replies, voice low.
“Anyone I’d know?” Steve whispers despite it just being the two of them.
“I think you might, yeah,” Eddie says, now closer than he was before, voice just as breathless. Steve feels fingers, then a palm on his thigh. He looks over and locks eyes with Eddie. Even in the low light of a summer sunset, Steve can see Eddie’s eyes dilated fully, a sea of black on his handsome face.

A guitar riff came out over top of all the other instruments and Steve froze in place, the smile on his face disappearing.
He knew that riff. He had heard it enough times over the summer of ‘86 to know it as soon as it started. Hell, Steve was there when it was written.
“Indianapolis, how are we fucking feeling?!”
The guitarist had run out from the side of the stage, wide smile on his face, strumming the riff over and over on his cherry red electric guitar as he spoke to the crowd. Eddie fucking Munson.

Rockstar!Eddie Munson au set in the summer of 1988 where Corroded Coffin opens for Guns N’ Roses after Eddie ran away from Hawkins. Steve sees him for the first time in over a year and old feelings resurface.

Steve smirked and kissed his way up to the woman’s ear. “Give me a number.”
“Three?” she answered.
“Well, Eddie, you heard her. She has to come three times before you can touch yourself.”

Summary
He knows Steve won’t hear him, and imagines that he won’t feel him, but he hops down from the roof and stands in front of him anyways, directly between Steve and their friends looking on, and wraps translucent arms around his shoulders. He hugs him the best he can, the way he should’ve when they split up for the battle that would eventually kill him.
“I’m so sorry, Steve. I’m so, so sorry.”
He doesn’t feel the warmth he knows he would’ve had he stuck to the plan and been brave enough to hug Steve in victory, rather than in mourning.

Or, Eddie's van is left to rot in the woods and Eddie finds himself bound to it. As years pass, Steve never stops visiting.
