It’s been seven years since Will Byers vanished from Hawkins for the second time; seven years since he picked up his life, moved across the globe, and finally settled. He had found himself in a small town outside of Dublin with no desire to be anyplace else. He was happy. Ireland was great — beautiful sights, decent weather, and it was far. So, so far.
But when past feelings bubble from under the surface and start to poison his creative endeavors, he doesn’t think things could get any worse.
Seeing Mike Wheeler at his local grocery store quickly proves him wrong.

“I’m a bad friend.” Mike admitted, breathing it out like a vomited confession, like something he was desperate to be rid of.
“Did something happen?” Steve asked.
“Yes.” He paused. “Well, no. It’s— it’s more like… more like… he got a boyfriend.” Mike huffed out a breath.
“I know.” Steve agreed slowly, brows raised. “Carlton. Will, Robin and I met up a while back and he introduced us. Seems like a good kid. What about him?”
Mike felt like a fucking idiot.
Of course Steve didn’t get it. Why would Steve get it?
“I… I just…” How was Mike even meant to begin to talk about this? “It’s driving me crazy, man. I hate the guy.”
OR -
Mike spirals about his feelings, gets in his car, and somehow ends up going to Steve Harrington for help. He gets a much-needed pep talk and finally goes after what he wants.

“I’m not Tammy Thompson.” Mike’s eyes blaze. “I’m goddamn Mike Wheeler, and I’ve been in love with you since you set my hair on fire in science class when we were ten.” His jaw clenches, and Will feels like someone let off a grenade next to his head. “I realised I was in love with you when you left me for Lenora, and realised you loved me when you made up that bullshit about El asking you to make me the painting.”
Will feels the blood leave his face, feels his entire world shifting in an instant. “Mike–”
“And then you stand there and tell everyone it’s this crush that amounts to the same as some girl who didn’t like Robin back?” Mike’s voice cracks. “I– how am I that to you?”

He didn’t know what he expected from Swiss. Certainly not a straight answer, Ghouls didn’t communicate with humans that way. Ghoul tilted his head, studying him. And then an impossible long tongue, not quite human, but thicker, more like tentacle, emerged from between his black lips. Copia saw many rows of teeth, endless darkness behind them and mentally prepared himself to be devoured which was all he deserved as insufficient summoner, but instead he only felt a small lick on the tip of the nose.
Well, that was new. And nice. Like a greeting from a cat.
Copia smiled at Swiss, warm and welcoming, a silent ‘thank you’. It was amazing, actually, to stand so close to Ghoul who was radiating warmth like a furnace, and smiled back at his Cardinal.
Swiss apparently decided it was an invitation because more licks came, his tongue unexpectedly soft and dry, licking Copia’s cheeks and forehead like an over enthusiastic dog.
