When Rick O'Connell moved in with the Carnahans, he had no idea he would have a cat. Or rather, be adopted by one. Cleo, Evelyn's white cat, had met him when Imhotep came back to life and even accepted being held by Rick. The man imagined that the feline wouldn't even notice his presence in the house, but now it followed him everywhere.
"Cleo clearly likes you," Evelyn commented at breakfast. "That means you're officially a member of the family, Rick." So Rick started playing and interacting with Cleo and enjoyed having a pet. Jonathan warned him that Cleo is the owner of the house and doesn't tolerate them delaying feeding her. "I made that mistake once, I almost lost a bloody arm."

The O'Connells continued preparing for Alex's rescue, and Jonathan grabbed his rifle. He wasn't good at goodbyes, but he wanted to talk to Jonathan before fighting Anubis' army. Bay studied him for a moment before asking, "You any good with that?".
Jonathan looked at Ardeth confidently. Yes, it was time for him to show off. "Three times Fox and Hound's grand champion, I'll have you know" Jonathan looked at Ardeth's sword and asked, "You any good with that?". There had been tension between them since the previous night, when Jonathan fell asleep with his head resting on the medjai's shoulder. They began to stare at each other more, to show off their skills.

Jonathan shifted nervously in his chair and stared at the typewriter for a while. Bay noticed how his boyfriend sometimes had difficulty opening up, so he waited patiently."

"Feeling ridiculous for disturbing the man's sleep, Evelyn turned around, planning to go back to her room, when the door opened. "Evy?" Rick asked. He'd started using her nickname recently, and she always blushed when her boyfriend said it so tenderly. She noticed that Rick didn't look like someone who had just woken up. -

Ardeth seemed a little worried, but he wasn't inexperienced in chaotic sibling squabbles, though. He had two older sisters who were very close, but when they fought...
A chill ran through Ardeth as he remembered one particular fight. Something about a missing purse. Of course, Ardeth tried to calm things down and said calmly, "There's no need for violence." That was a grave mistake, because soon after, Ardeth found himself running for his life. He managed to survive thanks to his mother, who simply appeared and gave them that particular look that would make even Scorpion King cry, and then the Bay house returned to normal.

Clearly, Jonathan's presence had an influence on Ardeth. Ardeth began to allow himself to be silly. He first noticed this when he saw Jonathan, Evelyn, and O'Connell escaping from the ruins of Hamunaptra.
Bay was relieved that the trio had escaped alive and defeated Imhotep, but his focus turned to the Englishman, and a plan emerged. Stealthily, Ardeth guided his camel to stand near Jonathan without anyone noticing. The man didn't understand why he was doing this, but he couldn't stop thinking about Jonathan's likely reaction. Then, at the opportune moment, he placed his hand on the Englishman's shoulder.
