Summary
Magic crackled constantly under Willow's skin. Sometimes it was a dully glowing ember, happy to wait until Willow needed to call it forth; other times, it was a raging wildfire, burning and begging for her to release it. Her body hummed with the need to use it, trembling under the force of her restraint and only settling into a soothed state when she finally let magic pool at her fingertips. Merlin would have slept through the clank of chainmail, would not have woken to the soft noise of the door to Gaius’ chambers being pushed open. Only Lancelot’s bravery and kindness spared him, the knight raising his voice unnecessarily loud to call out “be careful, sire! If Merlin does have magic, there might be traps."
