Summary
Dennis is still seizing when the doors to the trauma room closes behind them again. His body jerks unnaturally, the spasms painful and violent.
Amy is crying so loudly she's hyperventilating and Dana is quick to wrap her arms around her shoulders.
“Why is he seizing?” What's wrong with him?” Amy cries, covering her mouth with her hands. “Is he going to be okay?”
“Does he look okay to you? Trinity spits. “His brain is literally frying from overheating. His temperature is so high his organs are falling. He's practically boiling from within. That's what's wrong with him.”

Dennis blinks at him, fingers moving weakly.
“You're hurt,” Dennis says, voice shaky and every breath wheezy and painful.
“Just stay with me,” Robby grunts and moves his arm to Dennis' side in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

‘‘Keep your eyes open. Stay awake for me!" He pleads.
It's starts as an ordinary shift but ends in absolute horror.Robby and Dennis are attacked and end up badly injured. Robby is more concerned about his intern than himself and everyone else are left picking up the pieces.

Summary
Poor kid, he had time to think before his eyes traveled from the body covered by the heating blanket to the young man's face.
His heart dropped in his chest and his whole body turned cold with fear.
“Oh god…Whitaker?” he said as his eyes landed on the very familiar face.
The young man was deathly pale, skin waxy and lips blue, but there was no doubt in his mind that this was their former med student that he hadn't seen in months lying lifeless on the gurney, body covered in blankets, c-collar around his neck and breathing tube in his mouth and secured to his face.
~
Dennis doesn't get matched with PTMC or the emergency department. Almost a year later he is brought into the ER in critical condition. By then no one has heard from him in months.

Summary
Signal after signal rings through and she's about to give up when he finally accepts the call.
There's a weird shuffling noise in her ear.
“Huckleberry, where the hell are you?” she says
For a few seconds there's only silence and her stomach twists unpleasantly. She presses her hand to her other ear to try to cancel out the noise around her.
“Trinity…I don't feel good…help…”
Her grip around the phone tightens and she looks at Dana and Robby and her heart picks up speed.
His voice is hoarse and weak and he seems out of it.
“Where are you? What's going on?” she asks.
“Really…tired…something's…wrong…”
He coughs into the phone for several long seconds.
“Trin’ty?...pl’se help…”
The words are slurry and he struggles to get the words out, his breaths rapid in her ear.
“Where are you? Talk to me! Huckleberry? Tell me where you are.” she says frantically.
There's nothing but silence in her ear.

Summary
"Take off your shirt."
Whitaker's eyes blew wide.
Robby looked disappointed. "Whitaker, I am a physician of over 20 years, if you think you can hide an injury from me and continue to work you are gravely mistaken I am afraid."
Dennis went to protest, opening his mouth… but nothing came out of it. He shut it, then reopened it and tried again. But Robby just tilted his head, giving him a look.
"I can get someone else if you are more comfortable… but I can't have a resident working through pain and potentially making an injury worse."
He had been doing a good job so far keeping his two lives separate. No one knew about his fights, his injuries.
Except for Robby, who seemed to be the only one to see right through him. To pry in the right places without even knowing what he was digging for.
ORDennis is known to the hospital as Dr. Whitaker. But to the streets, he is known as Whiplash. He spends his Friday nights in abandoned warehouses, boxing with sketchy mentors and taking cash home in envelopes.
What will break him first? His religious trauma, his double life, or love?

Summary
Dennis Whitaker has spent years pretending his back is something he can outsmart. A farming accident before college compromised his spine, and every surgery, every stretch, every carefully timed pill has been part of the bargain that lets him keep working in the emergency department.
But when a bad lift during a trauma shift sends white-hot pain, the lie starts to crack. Pope sees the way Dennis moves, Trinity sees the way he disappears into his locker and comes back a little too comfortable, and Dennis keeps insisting he’s fine, even as the line between managing pain and hiding from it begins to blur.Bookmarked by Littleflower_s
