Summary
Mac knew he was dreaming.
There was no other explanation for the haze of the world around him. He didn't remember how he had gotten here, couldn't really say where "here" was for that matter.
He looked down into the face of what could only be his daughter. He took in her dark hair and warm brown eyes that must belong to her mother, but that was his dimpled cheek and his crooked grin on her beautiful little face.

Summary
"What are you doing? "
"Keeping rocks from crushing you."
"Okay. I'm not crushed, you can get off me now!"
"I'll take that as a thank you."
The haze of adrenaline around her was almost a relief from the strange feeling of his voice vibrating down her spine as she crawled out from under his weight.

Summary
"You asked Bucky if he remembered his kills. Well, we were in the same line of work, why not ask me? We're friends, right? So what do you want to know? Names? Dates? Locations? Want to know what food was on their breath? Their eyes. Do you want to know what color their eyes were? Want to know the last words they spoke? Want to hear which ones deserved it? Or better yet, the ones that didn't? Do you want to know which ones begged? Do you know why I remember these things?" She asked in a measured voice.
"Because I can't forget."

Summary
While the security team was busy trying to take cover, Mac slung one of Riley’s arms over his shoulder and hauled ass back to the van.
Jack would have said that they ran like they had the devil on their heels. Actually, Jack probably would have just been cussing them both out for putting themselves in danger like this, but Mac didn’t have a lot of room in his head for things that weren’t connected to keeping Riley alive just then.

Summary
“How much do you know about babies anyway, Mac?” she asked, her voice just a little too shaky to be normal.
“Not nearly enough,” he answered, still checking the child for injuries. His hands shook like he was scared he might break her. “How are we supposed to do this Riles? I think she’s okay, but I don’t know. What do we do if we run into trouble? We can’t fight. I can’t make a bomb or anything else I normally would without putting her at risk. How am I supposed to get you both out of here? I don’t know what to do.”

Summary
Later when they were both safe and far away from Venezuela, Mac would remember the way her eyes widened as he undid the fly on his jeans to let them hang low on his hips. He would remember the way her breath caught as he leaned far enough into the shower to soak his hair under the hot water, and the way her gaze darkened as she watched water droplets slide down his chest and arms. There would be time enough later for so much.

Summary
He knew better than anyone else how off kilter she’d felt recently. Bozer tried to help, he did everything he could, but he just couldn’t understand the two of them the way they could understand each other. Even if that wasn’t the case the fact remained; she was happily dating someone else. For that reason alone he should shut down these feelings and just be grateful she considered him a friend.
He was grateful, everyday.
Mac also wasn’t naive or selfish enough to think that he was the only one feeling lost right now. So, fuck his feelings and his angst, he had to at least pretend to pull it together for the rest of the team.
He could be Riley’s friend, and let her be his. He would learn not to want her so badly. He could do this. He had to.

Summary
Olvera was at least a hundred and fifty pounds heavier, and about a foot taller, than Riley. Given the condition of his body when they’d found him, as well as Riley’s small size, he estimated she had maybe thirty minutes to live, with some margin for error. Mac didn’t like his lack of clarity when the stakes were so high, but without doing more tests to narrow down the exact type of cyanide compound in her system, he could only work within the known variables. He didn’t have time for anything else.
