hauntology (hɔːnˈtɒlədʒi) • noun
the past that haunts the present. see also: list of things that can be haunted: houses, furniture, dolls, and me by him.
Of all the ways his life could go to shit, amnesia wasn't one that Buck had ever really considered, but with the trajectory of his life, he probably should have seen this one coming. The world's still exactly the same as it was yesterday; the sky is blue, the sun rises East and sets West, he's surrounded by people who love him and—
Oh, right! He has a boyfriend.

Summary
Astronaut Tommy Kinard has a chance encounter with space nerd and firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley at a party before he goes up in space with Dr. Karen Wilson for what should have been a nine-day mission but becomes a several month one. Tommy finds himself growing closer to Evan as they talk to each other through the radio during that long visit to space.
EXCERPT:
So.
Here Tommy was.
At a party filled with mostly people Tommy knew vaguely from Karen and once when one of them, Howie, saved him from a gas leak at a mall. But Tommy didn’t really know most of the people at this party well.
The plan: make it an hour before getting out of Dodge.
Well.
That was the plan.
Before the hottest guy at the party started making a beeline toward him.

Summary
When Buck falls ill at the end of a night shift, a concerned Bobby refuses to let him drive home and calls in reinforcements.
He fumbles to press the accept call button, almost drops it once before he shoves it between his shoulder and head.
"Evan?" He says immediately. Despite how being with Evan has had the side effect of igniting previous friendships, there is very little that Bobby would be calling about during a work shift, no matter how close to finishing.
"-is fine, Tommy," Bobby immediately reassures. "Well-"
"Bobby."
There's a small pause, and Tommy winces. He'll have to apologize later.
"He's not injured," Bobby rephrases. "When we woke up, I found him asleep on the couch, I think he's got a fever and a bit of a migraine-"
"And you don't want him driving." Tommy guesses. His heart rate is still a little too fast to be healthy, but it's settling now, knowing that whilst Evan isn't at his best, he isn't - at least - near death's door, or about to be.
"Honestly, Tommy; he's also asking for you."

Summary
Tommy laughs, as much as it can be called a laugh when he can barely get the air to do it, but his breath still grazes against Buck’s lips, the ghost of what he really wants. It’s warm, and Tommy’s still looking at him, and it’s been eighteen days, and he’s baked on nearly every one of them. They’re in a crashed helicopter and Tommy’s pinned down and it’s a terrible idea and it’s been eighteen days, he’s counted every one, and-
Buck kisses him.
Tommy's helicopter goes down. Buck copes.
Kind of.
Hey - he never said he was coping well.

Summary
After the breakup, Tommy finds Evan literally haunting his narrative.
EXCERPT:
Tommy sighed, stretching before the start of the class. Tommy tried to focus on the nice day, if a little cloudy for once; the light breeze; what moves he was going to teach in the class. He almost felt himself distracted enough from his problems.
Until.
He.
Saw.
Him.
Evan.
Buckley.
Evan Buckley was staring straight at Tommy; intense and unending and making Tommy’s heart sink, or perhaps skip a beat before it broke again. He was stretching along with Tommy, practically mirroring Tommy’s moves.
What the fuck was Evan Buckley doing at Tommy’s self-defense course?
Evan had never once come to one of these events.
Tommy couldn’t help it. He found himself walking over, as if pulled in by the intense stare of his recent ex.
