Canon compliant through Season 2, sharply divergent from there, though I will be circling back to some familiar plot points.

A day or two passed after the unwanted discovery. And then days morphed into a week, and then weeks, until she was surprised when she thought of how long it had been.
A few times, she worked up the nerve to call Cottle, only to be interrupted by something urgent.
She flirted whenever she saw Bill; sometimes shamelessly. Twice, she went far enough that he warned her with a look and a reference to duty. And so she nodded and sighed, and he nodded and grunted, and they went about their duties as Admiral and President, and she stored the notions of Bill and Laura away in some imaginary box to be saved for someday.
And if Tom flirted when they met in private… Well, it was fun to flirt with someone who flirted back. After all, who could begrudge her that, while she had the chance?
