Silence drifted in the air between them, only filled with the ocassional crackle of the flame. It danced between them slowly, illuminating their faces in a soft glow. The heat emmitting from it thawed the tension in Sonic's muscles, allowing his body to relax.
"How so?" Shadow questioned, still expressionless - staring into the fire.
Sonic and Shadow have known each other for five years now, and when they head out to locate one of Eggman's bases in the mountains - Sonic finds it the perfect opportunity to spend some alone time with the hedgehog. Away from everyone else's prying eyes, the two can be honest with each other and explore their feelings.

Well, except that it turns out Haven ain't quite the city he thought it was, the perpetually-exhausted guy who keeps showin' up for drinks ain't normal, and accordin' to him, Daxter's mixes ain't just coffee.

Springs in Sandover were warm and sunny. With chilly nights and dew-covered mornings. Flowers bloomed wherever they could find grass. Keira made flower crowns faster than the flowers could regrow. Spring was when the flut fluts hatched and yakows had their calves. Spring was also when the ocean was still too cold to swim in, but Daxter would dare him to anyway and they'd both see who could stay in the longest. Loser had to do the other's chores. Daxter always lost but he still insisted on playing. In the end they both lost because they'd inevitably end up sick (not that anyone could tell the difference between that and Daxter's horrible allergies) and Samos would grumble and complain even as he made them tea. Keira would end up stuck with both their share of the chores for the next few days which meant they'd be doing hers for the next week to make up for it.

Everyone else is talking about cheerleaders or classmates they want to draw, but Jamie knows exactly who he wants to use.
