This was the first she wanted to break so badly.

She wanted to say no. She wanted to keep that calloused hand in hers and stay until the end. She wanted to be selfish.
But if she stayed, she would watch the last hope in those violet eyes die with her, watch that crooked smile fade, watch her give up on the future she had spent so long fighting for. J couldn't bear that.
"Okay," she said. It was the worst word she had ever gotten out. She said it while holding on, and then she let go, finger by finger, and went.
She left her in the ash with no future of her own, and that ash would be in her mouth for the rest of her life.

Serial Designation J-10X111001, better known as J, always prided herself in her independence.
But that didn’t mean she wanted to be completely alone.
After the events of Cyn’s great downfall, the world-eating eldritch horror now trapped in a snaggle-toothed mouth at the tip of Uzi Doorman’s tail, J has been suffering the consequences of her (less than voluntary) actions.
This is, more or less, a creative writing exercise for the author’s convenience and to satiate her love of seeing her favorites suffer.
Yes, the title is a play on lyrics from the song “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron. Yes, I am aware it is not word-for-word. Deal with it.

The claws at the end of one of the murder drone’s arms retract, replaced with a single long blade that reads very clearly to Uzi as a weapon designed for decapitation. She scrambles for insults to throw or distractions to find. She can’t be killed yet, not yet. She’s taking this thing down with her. She continues to drag herself backward toward her gun, half-buried in a snowdrift, and blurts, “W-Well, that’s boring! Just going to off me just like that? I-I thought murder drones liked to play with their food more.”

Her car ran out of gas, a creep under an underpass decided she looked like easy prey, and suddenly her perfectly miserable evening was turning into a full-blown fucking disaster. Then a tiny masked stranger with a knife shows up, and the night takes a very unexpected turn.
