Summary
Mel returns to the pitt two weeks after Frank took her home because she fell on her face, and oh boy, her shift's one for the books. But hey, at the end of the day, she may just end up with a boyfriend.
Or; a day of pitt crew shenanigans that ends up with Mel and Frank finally getting their shit together.

Summary
“My name’s Mel.”
He blinked, squinting at her in confusion. “Yeah…I know.”
Heat ran up to Mel’s cheeks, but she pressed on. “I don’t usually go out to places like this. A co-worker—a determined one—made me come. I was going to bail as soon as I walked in. But I thought, hey, I should at least give it a try. Get a drink. And, well…you saw how well that was going.” She forced a shaky chuckle, glancing down at her drink.
Langdon stared at her for a few seconds. Then, something shifted in his expression. Recognition.
He picked up a game piece and set it on the board alongside hers.
"Mel," he sounded out, as if this were the first time he’d said it. "Nice to meet you, I’m Frank."
Or,
Mel King, Frank Langdon, and their many first meetings.

Summary
“What do you think about the severe rash case? Think you want in on it or can I take it?”
Frank turns to face her, which makes her look at him. His eyebrow is raised, an expression of focus on his face. “I think I want you to take a break.”
Mel laughs, glances away before making eye contact again. “That’s a funny joke.”
“No, I'm serious. Mel, go take fifteen,” he says with a firm tone.
“But I don’t need a break.”
Frank places a gentle, yet strong, hand on her shoulder. Mel glances down at it, a bit too stunned to speak; her brain trips over itself. Frank rarely touches her like this. It should be overstimulating — and if it were anyone else, it very well might’ve been — but instead the weight of his hand on her shoulder grounds her. Becomes an anchor.

Summary
“Robby,” Frank says, voice thick with anger.
He can see Robby sigh, watches as his head drops and his shoulders sag. Robby turns slowly, hands in his pockets, a “kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar” look on his face. Good, Frank thinks. He should feel guilty.
“What do you want?” Robby asks.
“I’m gonna talk and you’re going to fucking listen.”
Or, Frank Langdon absolutely crashing out on Robby in the name of Mel King.

Summary
It’s fucking crazy of her. She stands there with hay stuck to the knees of her scrub pants, her mouth drawn into a thin line, and her eyes two icy shards of fury in her face. She looks like an avenging angel, all beautiful, righteous anger, backlit by the sun streaming through the square window. If it were anyone else, Frank is pretty sure Travis would have pulled the trigger.
But Mel has always bent the rules of the universe, so Travis just nods meekly and tucks his gun into the waistband of his jeans.
Or: Frank and Mel are kidnapped, and somehow it's the most romantic thing ever.

.
.
.
In the controlled chaos of the ER, Melissa King and Frank Langdon are used to managing the unmanageable: patients, pressure, loss. What they’re less equipped for are the quiet moments in between: unanswered calls, shared grief, late-night stairwell conversations, and the slow realization that some things can’t stay unspoken forever. Summary
A lot of people felt that Mel and Langdon didn’t go together. At least, not like that, but Frank made Mel feel safe. And safety? The knowledge that you could just leave yourself in the hands of someone else and know, with absolute certainty, that they would just take care of everything and make you feel good? Now that...that was hot.

Summary
All things considered, it was probably for the best that Mel King was a Beta. She couldn't imagine being overwhelmed by scent and instinct 24/7 like an Alpha or an Omega, so she really couldn't be too upset on that front. Not to mention also the other social layers to the designations, no thank you.
Being a Beta was safe and boring. Dr. Langdon didn't seem to mind befriending them either, so that was a plus.
As hectic as the Pitt could be, the return of her favorite doctor did a lot for Mel's peace of mind, even if he smelled kind of good and was kind of too nice to her. He was a little bullheaded about it, but that's just how Alphas were. Right? Yeah.

Summary
“I can just pretend someone would actually step up," Mel admits, the honesty slipping out before she can stop it. "That someone would finally be the one to take care of me.”
Frank doesn't hesitate. He leans in until they’re temple-to-temple, blocking out the sun and the noise of the Faire alike.
“I could,” he whispers. “And I think I’d be damn good at it, too.”
Where Mel invites Frank to a ren faire, gets roped into working the naughty bartender booth, and he shows her just how much he likes her costume.

"I think it’s not about other people’s trust in you. It’s more about if you trust yourself.”
Frank trusts himself with a lot of things—saving a patient’s life, taking care of his kids, calling someone when he’s craving benzos. But with Mel? She’s so rare, so precious. How could he ever trust himself with that?

“Mel, can you hear me?” Mel recognizes that voice. The only person in this emergency department who ever gave her the time of day. Maybe even the only person in the entire world. She feels her throat tighten again as more tears threaten to fall.
She doesn’t open her eyes or remove her hands, but she unclenches her fists to hear him better.
“It’s just me, Mel. Ugh, it’s Frank. Is there anything I can do? The lights are off; you’re on the second floor. It’s quieter up here and there are more empty rooms. Can I get you some water?” Mel feels herself nod.
