Summary

He knows he can’t keep running on the survival instincts that got him through the last fifteen years. This time, he wants to do things right, even if unlearning some of his old habits turns out to be harder than fighting villains.
As Mecha Man learns how to be a hero without destroying himself in the process, the Z Team watches closely, catching a glimpse of the unspoken, unseen side of heroism that no one really talks about.

A weight lifts off of Robert's chest. Some unseen, fractured pattern comes to completion, and the joy of it is pure and simple. “Chase,” he says, not knowing whether to sob or laugh, “she's named after you.”
It didn't quite dawn on him yet, clearly. Chase snorts and scratches Beef's ears. “Yeah, right. First name Track, last name Star?”
Robert hoists the baby up to the full twenty-eight inches of limb and menace. “Chase, meet Chase.”

Malevola honestly expected this to be a prank, or kids fucking around, or fucking Red Ring. Nothing that should warrant both of them taking their time out of a Saturday night trespassing condemned buildings and generally violating the terms of Victor's parole.
What she doesn't expect is an honest bonafide ghost. The ghost of a guy maybe around her age, with a black mask over his head and a lightly armored supersuit-- the back completely scorched away, and Mecha Man's fucking symbol on his chest.
