Izuku didn’t mind the bullying. Really, he didn’t. The soppy, singed notebook in his hand didn’t affect him in the slightest. The burning sting on his skin and the smell of smoke emanating from the bull horns on his head meant nothing to him.
So why were his hands shaking?
Izuku huffed, shaking his head, hoping it would work like an Etch-a-Sketch and rid his head of the bad thoughts. It kind of worked.
As Izuku made the walk home, the words Kacchan had spoken rang in his head, “If you wanna be a hero so bad, take a swan dive off the roof and hope for a real Quirk in your next life!” Izuku’s hands gripped tighter on the straps of his backpack, letting out a half-hearted laugh. If only Kacchan knew.Izuku hated his act.

Summary
Midoriya Izuku has a stockpiling quirk that takes the energy from fresh corpses (lovingly referred to as 'souls') and uses them to boost his natural abilities accordingly. Others call it 'scavenging', or 'grave robbing', but Izuku just calls it recycling.
Of course, it's kind of hard to be a hero when his quirk relies on things Not Being Saved, but that's fine. He'll figure it out.
WARNING: This fic contains a lot of animal death-- death and corpses are very important to the story, and I don't really pull punches with this sort of thing, so if you've got a soft heart for fictional animals, this might not be for you.

He wasn't always like that: for the first decade of his life he was just a regular Quirkless kid. But something happened, and it changed him. Now people are made uneasy by his very gaze, he knows things he shouldn't, and his scores in English are perfect.
For his part, Izuku tries to be friendly, but people are always put off by his eyes. Aside from Hatsume Mei, the dubiously sane inventor, and Nedzu, the principal of the greatest Heroics school in Japan, that is.
Honestly? Izuku just wanted to go into hero analysis. But the Dread Powers very rarely care about the desires of humans.

Summary
Midoriya Izuku was alive before the birth of quirks. Stuck in a testing facility by a sadistic A.I., Glados, he is forced to go through test after test in the Aperture Science chambers forever.
That is, until a rescue operation takes place to infiltrate the building, and now Midoriya must re-enter a society he didn't belong to with changes to his body he never wanted.

Midoriya is a test subject in the years after Portal 2, where he undergoes human experimentation at the hands of Glados.
You don't need to have played/watched Portal to understand this, almost all Portal lore is explained.
