At first he thinks it unlikely, but finds it is true and with little other alternative, decides to use Ghost as a shield. Ghost agrees to protect him, provided he pays him for it on his knees.
Note about Rape/non-con and dub-con tags: There is very blunt talk about Soap being in danger of being raped by other inmates and there is later an attempted rape. It's not the first time Soap has visited the pony auctions, but it's the first time he has done so with a specific mission in mind. The rows of stalls and pens are familiar to him as he walks them, taking in each pony with a critical eye. At his side is Gaz, his right-hand man, who has an eye for ponies that rivals Soap's own.
"Soap," a man greets Soap with a warm smile and a familiar clasp of their forearms, shaking his hand. He gives Gaz the same treatment, though their touch lingers a mite longer.
"Price," Soap replies, smiling. "Quite a lot today."
Price sighs and nods. "A recent breeding farm was liquidated, so we got a lot of their ponies."
Soap's head tilts, eyes flashing with intrigue. "What a coincidence," he says. "I'm looking for a surrogate mare for ma girl."
Price presses his lips together, stroking his beard as he considers this, casting a critical eye over the ponies in the nearest pen. "Sorcha, right?" he asks, Soap pleasantly surprised that Price remembers the name of his prize-winning showpony. "Who are you breeding her to, do you know yet?"
"No," he admits, "but Ah'm sure any of her foals will be quite large."

Ghost paces the fence anxiously, not caring that he's trotted and tunneled a furrow in the grass that anyone could trip on. His nostrils flare wide in deep, nervous snorts, his teeth grinding together hard enough to send a dull ache all through his skull.
Soap's been gone for three days. Three whole days and nights, since he'd gone for his surgery, and Ghost is beside himself with worry for his owner, his stallion, his mate. He can't smell Johnny in his stall anymore, hasn't heard his voice or seen his smile in three days.
He might be losing his mind a little bit about it.
