    Ilya Rozanov has had enough.

    Three days of partying on a Caribbean island with his teammates has left him with a raging hangover and craving one thing: escape. So he hires a jetski, guns the engine and tears out into open water, leaving the bars, the noise and the women he hooked up on the first three nights far behind.

    Until the fuel runs out.

    Hours later, with no land in sight and the sun sinking towards the horizon, Ilya accepts that he’s going to die alone at sea. It’s then that he spies a small wooden rowing boat slowly making its way towards him.

    Shane “Mr Real Estate” Hollander is a reclusive property tycoon on his annual survival retreat on a remote private island. These two weeks are his one indulgence to escape the pressures of corporate life. He’s off grid, surviving off the land and feels relaxed for the first time in months. Until he spots the jetski drifting out at sea.

    There’s one bed, no phone signal, sharks in the water and a storm closing in.

    They’re completely alone, together - until the boat is scheduled to collect Hollander ten days later.

    In another timeline, Shane and Ilya hook up in Room 1410, Ilya slips out unnoticed, and they spend the next seven years trapped in the situationship from hell we all know and love.

    In this one, Yuna Hollander walks in just as Ilya goes to leave and—through the combined power of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and a frankly alarming lack of follow-up—Shane and Ilya start dating in 2010.

    Given the chance to grow up with rather than against each other, Shane and Ilya build a life thats steadier, safer, and far less frightening than their canon. Their rivalry fizzles before it ever has the chance to fully ignite, replaced by hockey’s most beloved “bromance", and in 2015, they find the courage to do the one thing their canon counterparts never got to do: tell the NHL and the world.

    There is just one problem: No one believes them.

     

    OR: Despite Shane and Ilya being out for two years, Scott Hunter is still considered the first openly gay player in the NHL, much to Ilya’s indignation.

    Heat spread across Ilya's face. His mouth fell open slightly. He let out a short, stuttered laugh of disbelief. This couldn't- he was straight, he wasn't-

    “Finally got you at your own game.” Shane's smirk widened to a smile, his hand clapping down on Ilya's shoulder to squeeze it slightly. For once in his life, Ilya was unable to find his voice.

    “Damn.” Shane laughed, jostling him a bit. “If I had known this was all it took to get you to shut the fuck up, I would have started flirting back years ago.”

    When old college friends Ilya and Shane show up to their mutual best friend's wedding, they are ready to fulfill their duties as bridesmen. Even after years of not seeing each other, they fall right back into their usual banter.

    Ilya loves to flirt with Shane. Shane loves to tell him to fuck off. It's a running bit. Nothing more than a joke between two friends; because Shane is gay and Ilya is straight and it doesn't actually mean anything…until Shane finally decides to flirt back, and Ilya's world suddenly tilts on its axis.
