Summary
His arms were wrapping around Liam’s neck in a manner that had become all too common for him, Theo pulling Liam in close as bullets began to fly their way.
The elevator doors suddenly got their shit together, closing just as he pulled Liam over the threshold, the two falling into one another, Theo with his back against the wall.
Theo couldn’t hear anything except their combined erratic beating hearts, Liam’s familiar scent filling his nostrils.
It took him, and Liam it seemed, a moment to realize they were tangled up together, one of Theo’s arms still protectively wrapped around Liam, the beta all but in his lap.
Liam quickly shrugged him off and made to stand, beelining for the buttons, his claws tapping at the hold button. Theo stayed where he was, looking up at Liam.
“What’re you doing here?” Liam all but shouted, more freaked out at the situation than angry with Theo.
Theo scoffed. “I was just about to ask myself the same thing.”

“What’re you thinking about?” Liam asks lazily, staring at Theo.
His face must do something then, because Liam is scrambling to cover his tracks at the thought of making him even the slightest bit uncomfortable. He opens and closes his mouth a few times - in a way that’d be endearing if he didn’t look so nervous.
“You don’t have to answer that. It was just too quiet.”
Theo hums, feigning indifference.
He wants to answer it. He wants and wants, wants Liam, wants a home, wants a family.
More than anything, he wants them to understand. The complexities of his childhood he keeps buried so far down, covered by rotten wood and damp soil. His life, his sister, his parents, the house they grew up in, everything before the doctors.

Summary
When the counselors can't leave Hackett's Quarry, everyone is now even more annoyed by the lack of social networks, comfortable beds and contact with people other than hundreds of children and their co-workers. That's when Dylan suggests they could spend the last night by a bonfire and things seemed to turn out for the better. He himself hoped that this would give him a chance to talk to Ryan more before saying goodbye to him for good.
But when signal mysteriously appears again and each of them immediately stick to their phones, Ryan accidentally hears one of the calls Dylan was trying to make in private. He certainly didn't like the hints of what he'd heard from Dylan at that moment.
