Summary
Finally on her long awaited tour that spans the country, Lucille’s fame begins to rapidly blossom under the hot glow of stage lights while Alastor continues to move in tandem through the shadows, continuing his work of making sure that with each stop, someone cruel disappears like smoke in the wind: quietly and without a trace.
But as misery loves company, trouble finds them when yet another unexpected death gets the authorities hot on their trail, threatening all that the pair has built for themselves. However, even as one crisis is avoided, it only bleeds into another once they return home as the person who had previously been threatening their life together from the shadows returns... And this time, no one is safe until they get what they want.
When the tragedy finally comes, brutal and senseless, this one act of violence tears Lucille’s world apart, and with it, what’s left of Alastor’s fragile sanity. Grief opens a door to something ancient and vile, and as agony coils in his chest, he reaches for the only thing left that might give him control over the pain: the sweet promise of power, magic born of death, darkness, and the assurance of vengeance.
