It’s such a small thing, but he likes to know that if he’s jolted awake in the middle of the night, he can just roll over and reach for her.
He focuses on the small sounds she’s making instead -- her long, uneven breaths, the small sighs as she shifts her weight from one side of her lower back to the other, the rustling of the blankets as she first brings them up to her chin, and then lowers them back down to her chest. She’s not asleep. Not even close.
“What are you thinking about, hon?” he asks, keeping his voice low.
