For eight months, a serial arsonist known only as the King of Curses has stayed one step ahead of the police. With the attacks escalating and victims beginning to pile up, the investigation forces the police department into an uneasy partnership with the city's fire department.
Detective Fushiguro Megumi expects the case to be difficult.
He does not expect one of the firefighters assigned to the investigation to turn his life upside down. As clues emerge from the ashes and tensions rise between departments, Megumi and Itadori Yuuji find themselves growing closer with every lead they chase. But as the case becomes more dangerous, the line between professional and personal begins to blur.
Unfortunately, serial arsonists don't take days off.

Then a physics professor assigns a group project, and suddenly Yuuji has Megumi’s phone number, a reason to text him, and approximately zero ability to behave like a functioning human being.
Or: Yuuji gets assigned a physics project with the prettiest boy he’s ever seen and immediately loses all remaining traces of common sense. Megumi, unfortunately, finds this more entertaining than he should.

“Hey! Fushiguro!”
Megumi has to physically shut his eyes to conceal the depth of his eye roll. He turns toward the shout and is entirely unsurprised to see Itadori Yuuji hanging out the passenger side window of a car. The guy is wearing a backward cap and muscle tank, thick arms on display. So stereotypical for a frat boy.
The car rolls slowly along, keeping pace with Megumi as he continues to walk. Itadori is now halfway out of the window as he leans on his folded arms, lopsided grin on his face.
“Can I get your number?”
“No.”
