"The soft patter of rain soaked into Tim’s clothes, filling up his shoes with a soft squelch that sounded with every footstep he took. The sky was dark, and a large crash of thunder caused Tim to hold on tighter to the hand in his. He relished in the warmth of the touch, the connection, the feel of fingertips against his own.
As soon as the touch was recognized, it was pulled away, and Tim was left with an aching want for warmth. His father looked down on him, a disappointed look on his face. He was silently admonished, knowing that the punishment for displaying weakness and affection would be doled out in the privacy of their own home. For now, he tried to capture that feeling, burning into his memory because he didn’t know when the next time he would be able to feel that warmth again would be."
