    Todd could feel his heartbeat in his head. He'd always been sort of outwardly nervous, terrible at hiding it, concealing it, pushing it down. He knew Neil and the others must have noticed and cursed himself for not being more subtle. They didn't seem too bad—a little confrontational for Todd's taste—but not rude, not going out of their way to exclude him. They still made him nervous, though. They knew of Jeffrey's excellence and could see plain as day that Todd was far from being like his brother.

    In which Todd gets dragged out of the shadows for the first time in his life and realizes that maybe the daylight isn't all that bad.
