What he finds behind the glittering edifice of Auriga, Wildemount’s leading name in arcane technology, is CEO Essek Thelyss, who maintains his domain with an acid tongue and an iron fist. It’s difficult not to find him intriguing, this handsome, guarded, brilliant man. It’s even more difficult not to want to please him.
Caleb knows to keep it professional, though. Working late nights together at the office and lingering glances here and there don’t cross the boundaries of propriety.
That is, until they do.

Bren - No, Caleb, they told him his name is Caleb now - Caleb has been outside the Assembly for four months, sixteen days, and 21 hours. He's been in the hospital for most of that time, a part of what people keep referring to as a "Protective Program".
He's not sure what he's being protected from. He's also not sure about these people he's being sent to live with, a family called the Brenattos who apparently have acted as a safe house for those within the program before. They're Betas, though, so maybe it won't be too bad.

The Ermendruds were brought into the Assembly - a cult run by an Alpha known as Ludinus Da'leth - when Bren was fairly young. It became all that he knew, all he's lived for, as he grew up under ideals of strength, power, and complete and utter loyalty.
When he Presented as an Omega come puberty, he was taken from his parents to serve a new purpose. He was soon after put under the "care" of another high ruling figure in the Assembly: Master Trent Ikithon.
After the cult is later found and torn down by authorities of Exandria, Bren - now Caleb - is thrusted into a whole new world. At least he made some friends along the way.

Caleb was laying, limp like a doll, on Beau’s back. Molly was reluctantly impressed that she’d seemingly carried him all the way back here. Overshadowing that, however, was the concern for their wizard. Caleb looked like he’d narrowly escaped a house-fire. His face was covered in soot and dried tear tracks ran down his ash-stained cheeks. He was pale as a ghost and even in unconsciousness, he seemed to tremble faintly. Molly couldn’t tell if that was from exhaustion, terror or an overuse of magic, though. Maybe even all three.
Or: After the fight with the Volstrucker, everyone is exhausted. Molly helps in any way they can.
