Summary
“Nance?”
Wheeler stills with her hand on the doorknob, looking like a shellshocked private flung back into Saigon. Eddie’s hand slips from her shoulder, falling stiffly at his side.
The Dog in his brain perks up. It pants, instantly keen.
Groaning, he turns around and sees Steve Harrington peeking through the throng of partygoers. His eyes drift from the back of Wheeler's head to Eddie, and his relieved expression twists into recognition. Then, absolute befuddlement sinks into his face.
Eddie knows what it looks like, him taking Wheeler home. The beta dweeb freak that played Satanic board games in his spare time just swept an alpha’s girlfriend off her feet, whisking her away to his evil lair, no doubt to indoctrinate her into nefariously rolling a d-12 and screaming, I cast fireball!
First of all: not a beta, but no one needs to know that. Second of all: he didn’t sweep her off her feet. They were just bum-rushing out of a tight spot they found themselves in. Third of all: well. The Dog likes him.

Summary
“Woah, hello.” Steve’s hands fly off Eddie’s body, raising them to the air like he’s been caught red handed. Ass handed? Brown handed? No, that’s gross.
“Don’t fucking pout at me.”
“I’m not pouting.”
“You look like I just ran over your dog!”
Steve’s disappointed expression smooths into feigned nonchalance, lips pursed as his eyes drift over Eddie’s shoulder, even though he looked awfully devastated over the concept of Eddie needing his hands off him for, like, two seconds.
His eyes make their way back to Eddie’s, their gazes locking once more, and– ugh. There’s something mischievous about Steve’s newfound attention. His hand closes around Eddie’s jaw, thumb rubbing circles near the corner of his mouth “Don’t you want to come?”
“I do,” Eddie groans, because his resolve is like ash falling from a cigarette butt. So easy to flick off. “I really fucking do.”
(or: eddie gets wined and dined, then loses his v-card in an incredibly confident and not-at-all nerve-wracking manner.)

Summary
There’s silence again, save for the faint breeze and crickets chirping in the brush ahead of Eddie.
Something plastic hits the ground. Steve mumbles, “Fuck.”
Actually, scratch that. Eddie has no idea what the Hell is going on.
The sound of Steve’s cursing nearly snaps Eddie out of his dread; its vice-grip loosening ever so slightly as Eddie presses his palm against his mouth, suppressing a laugh. Steve’s just so fucking goofy that he’s fumbling through trying to end his own almost-relationship. It makes Eddie feel a bit delirious.
There’s some vague shuffling from Steve, before something fucking weird happens.
The first thing Eddie notices is the clack of a cassette falling into a slot. A twinkling piano begins to fade in, single notes wandering into full on chords. Then, Billy fucking Joel starts to sing.
(or: steve resolves a lover's quarrel in a completely reasonable and super suave manner.)

Summary
“I should go,” Eddie blurts out, standing up so quickly that the chair under him scrapes against the floor like nails on a chalkboard.
Just like that, the spell breaks, and Steve’s smile drops. His brow furrows incredulously. Standing as well, he says, “What? Why?”
If only Eddie could list the reasons.
Sorry Steve, I really thought you making sweet and passionate love to me meant something to you as it did to me, even a fucking modicum. You positively ripped my heart out of its cavity and jump-roped on its remains. Please excuse me so I can stagger out your front door and throw up into your mother’s rose bush.

Summary
McVries, the immutable fucking bleeding heart, had decided to use up his wish right before the Major cocked the hammer backwards with his thumb.
He wished–no, begged, with his voice raw and uninhibited with panic–for Ray’s life. For a second winner of the Walk. Not a seat at the table, not ten naked ladies or a great big rocket to bring him to the moon, not even the carbine. But a life. Because, impossibly, Peter McVries saw a light in everything.

Summary
Eddie knows. He knows Steve likes him. But the thing is: Eddie’s not an idiot. Not fucking blind either. He knows he’s batting out of his league. Knows if people were open minded enough to accept two dudes together they’d draw the line at Steve Harrington with Eddie Munson. He knows what he looks like. Sure, his hair is better now, but that certainly doesn’t make up for his everything else. Hell, half his body mass is scar tissue, these days, so even if he’d been a centerfold before he’d be fuckin’ Quasimodo now.
But he wasn’t, so he’s like, The Blob, now, or some shit.
He just really hopes Steve maybe doesn’t feel the same.
He just really doesn’t want to be liked despite.

Summary
Steve has nightmares like this. Eddie hurt. Eddie pale. Eddie with blood around his mouth. Still like a dead body in hospital sheets. He has nightmares like this, but this isn’t a nightmare. It’s December 1992 and the person on the phone said critical condition.
Steve hasn’t spoken to Eddie since 1986, but the nurse on the phone called him, said come.
So he drove. Said he was his brother, of course, definitely. He signed some sort of form and put down his credit card because Eddie’s got no insurance and the man at the desk had suggested he wasn’t letting Steve back there without one. He’s not sure that’s legal. He’s going to look into it, but not now. Not when he has nightmares like this.

Summary
“Your dog is called Steve?” Is all Eddie can really think to say. Who would name such a majestic creature Steve?
“Oh he’s not my dog,” she tries to wave her hand dismissively and realizes she’s encumbered by the stuffed full tote, “he’s my friend Steve’s dog.”
Eddie blinks slowly.
“Your friend Steve, named his dog...Steve?”
The dog sighs. It’s loud enough that Eddie looks down at the dog instead. It lets it’s tongue flop out of it’s mouth; it looks like it’s grinning.
