He’d raise his voice after that, knocking back his head, so his sounds would travel back into the cave.
“The only ones I can talk to.”
Still nothing. Perhaps he could be just a bit louder.
“The only ones who care—”
“What are you going on about?”

Suguru slid the menu Satoru left out toward him, skimming its contents before tapping on the item that caught his interest. “I’m thinking we should order some fried calamari while we’re here.”
“That bad, huh?”
❤ Satoru and Suguru work for a somewhat dubious (but respectable) marine research center that specializes in housing and observing the rarest creatures one can find. Two merfolk, nicknamed Yuji and Sukuna by staff, have been brought in to the facility under their care, and neither are transitioning well to their new home in captivity. It isn't until a security breach occurs after hours that the researchers understand why.

“Vessel, do you wish to turn off once more?” Sukuna’s voice was soft, but it pierced through the emptiness of the room in such a way that Yuuji felt like it meant to encompass him whole, to drown him in the overwhelming waves of such a promise.
