Summary
Jesse’s face dies in the middle of nervous laughter. Surely he didn’t just hear Hanzo right. He freezes right there, all color draining from his face, his breath strangling. His eyes widen when he is finally hit with realization of what those words actually mean. He is opening and closing his mouth like a fish out of water. Hanzo would laugh at that if he wasn’t so nervous about the reveal he just made. He bites his lip nervously, watching Jesse, waiting for something to come out of him. He rubs his arm, his breathing is shallow. A long silence falls between them.

Prequel to Lore. Not necessary to read, but will be referenced in passing. Also, foundational character building, but it's all backstory. You CAN skip it if you want to.
The man known as McCree is a creature of reinvention. In the wake of the fall of Overwatch, he gets by with mercenary work, and sometimes that means working with unsavory characters. When a name from the past shows up looking for a part in his latest job, he has to bite back the urge to indulge in old ways. And misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows.

Summary
Cole toppled a government or two, caused a few explosions, murdered more bad guys than he can count, and probably a few innocents too. He caused more collateral damage — ruined more lives — than he’ll ever account for, and the world didn’t change a bit. He did his time, and he’s not going back.
Too bad Overwatch doesn’t want to take no for an answer.
