    Summary

After Shadesmar, Kaladin finally confesses his love to Adolin. It goes horribly wrong. Adolin pulls away, colder than ever, and Bridge Four begins to drift away from him. Only Syl remains by his side.

Haunted by regret, Kaladin watches everything he loves slip through his fingers. As Adolin prepares to marry Shallan, Kaladin is left with nothing but the crushing silence of what could’ve been.

He begins to believe the world would be better without him. That maybe, finally, it’s time to let go.

But just as he’s about to let go, he realizes something. Something that changes everything.

Adolin knew exactly what he was doing, “It’s only right,” he added, “That you see how happy I am. Without you.”

Kaladin felt the blood drain from his face. His lungs refused to expand. He thought he might be sick.

Adolin turned away, as if that were the end of the conversation. As if he’d merely delivered a formal report and had more important places to be, and he walked off.

    Just like that.

    Summary

What-If: Kaladin is Adolin’s betrothed instead of Shallan, but with a twist.

    P.S.: It was Wit’s idea.

Wit continued before he could interrupt, “What if there was a way to, maybe not stop Sadeas, but make it practically impossible for him to act on his threats? A way to not only shut down rumors about your House, your presumed insanity, your visions—but also the ones about why Adolin has been ignoring every marriage proposal he’s received? And, in the process, ensure Kaladin’s status as untouchable?”

Dalinar’s stomach twisted. He had a bad feeling about this, “I don’t have time for this, Wit,” he said, “Speak plainly.”

Wit leaned back in his chair. Without breaking eye contact, he said, “We betroth Kaladin to Adolin.”

“You’re joking,” Dalinar said once his mouth regained its ability to form words.

Silence stretched between them. Wit was not joking.

Dalinar missed the person he was before this conversation.

    Summary

After Adolin discovers Kaladin’s secret fantasy, it takes time to help him see it’s nothing shameful—that Adolin loves him completely, and may even share the same desire.

But finding someone they can trust with something so intimate proves harder than expected.

Until someone neither of them had considered volunteers.

“Oh no. No, no, no,” Adolin said, “You’ve been listening. You were listening in to our conversations about sex,” he accused, “What the hell is wrong with you?” his voice dropped, “I swear… if you’re planning to turn this into some grand magical tale you’ll spin for court intrigue or whatever—”

“I’m not,” Wit snapped. He sounded almost… insulted, “I’m not going to mock this. I just—”

“I believe he would like to volunteer,” a smooth, cheerful voice said.

    Both men turned.

Wit’s entire face crumpled like someone had just shoved him off a cliff, “Design!” he hissed, eyes wide, “You’ve done it again! Spoiled my entire monologue!”

    Summary

Dalinar has always respected Kaladin. So when he notices the way Adolin looks at him, Dalinar has the perfect idea: ask Kaladin to be Adolin’s date to his and Navani’s wedding.

Adolin and Kaladin agree, if only to make Dalinar happy. They’re not dating. They don’t even like each other that way.

    Except… maybe they do.

Pretending feels too easy. Too natural. And after the wedding, they’re left with feelings they can’t explain and definitely can’t ignore.

“Kaladin,” Adolin repeated, “You want me to take Kaladin as my date.”

    “Correct,” Dalinar said.

“Kaladin,” he said again, “You mean Bridge Four Kaladin. Captain Kaladin. My… friend Kaladin.”

“You like him, Adolin,” Navani said gently, “And we just thought… well, maybe this was a way to help you take the first step. To stop pretending it’s only friendship when it clearly isn’t.”

Adolin choked, “What—?” His voice cracked, “You think I—? That I like Kaladin? As in… like‑like?”

    Dalinar frowned, “Don’t you?”

“No!” Adolin half‑shouted, “No, of course not. He’s my friend. My best friend.”

    Wasn’t he?

    Summary

When Kaladin awkwardly admits he’s never kissed anyone—not even held hands—he’s humiliated.

Adolin, his best friend and longtime secret crush, offers to help: flirting tips, kissing lessons, everything. Just as friends.

Kaladin agrees, knowing it might ruin him. Because he’s in love with Adolin. And Adolin doesn’t feel the same.

Or so he thinks… until a kiss meant to be practice turns into something else entirely.

Adolin smiled, just a little too knowingly, “So… how about it? Think you’d be willing to show me just how well I taught you to kiss?”

Kaladin was never going to get used to this. To Adolin speaking to him like that. Still, somehow, he found the nerve to narrow his eyes in mock challenge.

“You sure you’re ready to see just how good of a kisser I’ve become?” he asked.

Adolin’s eyebrows rose, lips parting into a handsome grin. He leaned in slowly, “I’ll always be ready,” he said, “Because I’m the one who taught you. And you…” He brought his lips so close they were almost brushing, “You’re never going to kiss anyone else. You’re mine.”
