Summary
TEN: It’s haunting. Humanity asked them to sacrifice themselves, and in the end we know so little about that sacrifice.
The rest is post-history. Humanity had its hands full trying to prevent mass starvation, then recovering from the environmental disasters, and figuring out how to be immortal. When all was said and done, there was little desire to look into deep space. The price was too steep.JUICE: yeahhh pretty much. Unless the whole planet’s on the line interstellar travel is just so not worth it to humans.
even in a post-scarcity world its like... why bother. Its pretty pointless and not very rewarding
and there are much more rewarding pointless things to do
like illinois chess and pesäpallo and brazil-style mancala and footballNINE: I’m glad that their sacrifice wasn’t in vain. That today people get to do all the pointless and rewarding things in the world and never run out of time. I’m sorry they aren’t here to do the same.
TEN: Me too.
JUICE: yeah. RIP hail mary crew i bet you would have loved football
Everyone on Erid had stopped dying, and stopped being born. Ryland Grace had no way of knowing if the same had happened to Earth.

Summary
Thrust into the Frieren universe in the middle of the wilderness with a newborn demon who already walks and stalks prey, Clara Taylor’s new life is a nightmare.
Project manager, failed Olympic archer, anime fan, divorced mom... none of her credentials had prepared Clara to wake up inside a Greater Demon's body mid-labor. But she's dealt with more difficult things than a horned baby with predator instincts and zero concept of affection.
Clara has raised a child before, and she isn't about to let a little thing like demonic biology stop her from being a good mother.
The real question isn't whether she can raise him, it's what happens when a demon is loved from the very first day.

Summary
Simon expects to die alone in the Blood Ocean.
Instead, he wakes up in another universe years earlier, in the body of a man who shares his name and face, but not his life. Here, Simon isn't a convict. He's a technician working for NASA on Project Hail Mary. Everyone expects him to remember his coworkers, his life, and the man he's supposed to be.
Ryland Grace, the hopelessly curious scientist he is, is the first person to notice something isn't quite right.

Summary
“You… you really think you’re a pet.” Statement. Grace felt like Rocky, needing to clarify that it wasn’t a question.
“Some days, yeah.” Simon didn’t seem concerned. “Good days, usually. Some days I wake up convinced I’m dead and this is just the weirdest purgatory-adjacent afterlife. Or paradise. Or that I’m still actively dying and all this is an incredibly long hallucination my brain is running to keep me calm during the transition. But that one’s pretty easy to talk myself out of.”
“So every morning you have to sort out where your brain thinks you are that day?” he asked, all scientific curiosity gone. Simon gave an affirmative hum, more of an Eridian sound, affirmative in the note, than a human one, affirmative in the arrangement of notes. Grace thought of that morning, of every morning, where he had to piece together the blank emptiness of his mind. “I think I get it.”
~~~
In which Rocky and Grace arrive and find the Eridians much more equipped to handle the specific needs of a leaky space blob than they had anticipated.
