“I like you.” Will whispered back finally. Three simple words, that’s all it took for Mike’s world to be forever changed.
Mike liked Will. No, he loved him. He was the best person he’s ever known. But that’s not what Will meant. Well, maybe it could have been what he meant. But something in his gut was twisting, telling him that this was serious, this was a big deal. Something about Will’s nervous voice coming through the walkie, full of so much weight, something about the darkness and quiet of the night, like he and Will were the only people existing in this moment.

“What exactly does this pact entail, then?”
Mike leans forward very seriously, bringing his face close to Will’s.
“When they make it legal for you to get married, because they will.” He pauses, as if to make sure that Will is listening. Will laughs and nods for him to go on. “And if we’re both still alone and miserable—”
“Wow. Is that the awesome future you’re painting for us on our last night?”
“Shh.” Mike is doing a decent job at staying in character, but the crinkles around his eyes are giving him away. “If we’re both still alone by then… and at least partially miserable. That part’s important,” he continues dramatically, “I’ll marry the shit out of you, William Byers. Deal?”
Or, before heading off to college, Mike and Will make a pact. Fifteen years later, gay marriage is legalized in the state of Massachusetts. These two events are intrinsically linked to one another.

"A bunny," Lucas comments.
"Where the hell did it come from?" Dustin adds.
"Probably the neighbors. Who cares," Mike dismisses, rolling his eyes. "We have bigger problems right now. Just put it outside."
At that, the bunny squeaks. It shivers more, starts to struggle in Jane's arms and nuzzles against her. Almost like it's trying to tell her something.
Jane ignores all the arguing around her and looks at the little creature. Into its frightened eyes, at its drooped ears and chestnut fur. She stares for a long moment, then gasps.
"It's Will."

Will Byers turns into a bunny and everyone adores him.

Summary
Will and Mike accidentally overhear a couple talking dirty over the walkie, and start repeating some of the filthy phrases to each other for shits and giggles. What starts as a joke, soon turns into something they can't stop doing – and can’t tell anyone about.

"Right…Well, it all started because he wanted to help me practice."
Max blinked. "Practice what?"
"You know...Kissing."
For a moment, Max was fully speechless.
"I'm sorry, practice kissing?" She repeated, confused. "Like for a play?"
"No, for like…college." Will corrected, like that helped explain anything at all. "He said I was gonna go off to school and since I hadn't kissed anyone, he didn't want me to be behind, or whatever…so he offered to help me get some experience before I left."
Max stared at him. "Will…That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life."
"It's not that dumb."
"Uh, yeah it is! That's just some made up excuse a person tells themselves so they don't have to admit they wanna make out with someone."
Max asks herself the age old question: Why are boys so dumb?
