“Do you care about whether you meet your soulmate?” Mydei asked, because this time, he was curious. He was nearly done with his crown, narrowing his eyes at the edges that stuck out from their binds, trying his best to tuck them behind some of the jasmines. While he was doing so, Mydei felt a soft weight drop onto his head, and he looked up. His eyelashes brushed against soft yellow petals and minty leaves, the smell of flora and dirt permeating his nose. He looked further up to see Phainon smiling down at him, hands stretched out but empty, for the item of his interest was already placed where it belonged.
“I win.” Phainon said simply, plopping back down onto the grass and leaning back on his palms. Mydei reached up to touch the crown lightly, face feeling slightly warmer -- if Cipher saw him now, she would never let up with the ‘Little Prince’ jokes.

Perhaps, when the leaves ripen, Sunday would try to recreate that delicacy his mother used to make for him and Robin. Glancing back once more in the direction of the kitchen, Sunday smiled softly into the empty train car. He was glad he ultimately decided to keep it on display. It really was quite beautiful, and should be seen by everyone.
Sunday doesn’t yet realize how much he’d come to appreciate that decision, despite the headaches that were to come.

The question wasn’t one Aventurine had planned to ask, but it slipped out, and the silence lingered in the space between them, at least until Ratio answered, his tone even.
“It is more foolish to believe that humans are not allowed to be.”
And Aventurine had nothing to say to that, so he just shrugged on his coat and slipped out of the room.

Phainon did the only thing possible in such a situation: He panicked.
“Uh,” he said, because clearly his eloquence had abandoned him during one of the cycles, “yes?”
// OR, circumstance leads to the heirs thinking Phainon only lived through thirty-three cycles. Rather than correcting them on this, Phainon doubles down and decides this is the new narrative he'll go along with so as to avoid worrying them too much.
