Behind the scenes - in the cracks between planes, and the gaps behind time - the Ring of Brass lives on.The Sightwarden of Avalir lives a long life, as does his family. A person is made up of their memories, and the Archmage Por'co's memories rest in young and responsible hands. Draconic souls never truly die, and the laughing ghost of the Guildmaster is more than happy to wreak merry chaos across the many planes. If one were to look deep into the glowing blue of the ley lines, they might catch a glimpse of the Herald and the Architect Arcane, who waltz hand in hand along the flicker and spark of the magical veins.
The world ends, and then restarts again. The souls of those who saved it rest easy.
For the most part.

Eventually, Viktor stops even trying. He'll reach for an orange and roll it about mindlessly on the table top for a few minutes as he thinks, or ponders a particularly challenging runic equation. He'll roll one of them back and forth between his palms as he stands at the chalkboard, eyes raking over their scrawled notes and diagrams. And sometimes, he simply grabs an orange out of their dwindling supply, and plops it next to Jayce's elbow without a word. In all cases, the wordless request is there; and every time, Jayce takes up the orange, peels it, and sets it back on Viktor's side of the table. Often--not always, but often enough--he'll get a quick smile from Viktor, a duck of his head in thanks, before he goes back to whatever he was working on or talking about.
Sometimes, he pushes the orange back to Jayce's side, and Jayce realizes that he has not in fact eaten yet that day.

Summary
Cerrit escapes, is the only one to escape, what essentially became a floating bomb of fire and magical energy – and was only able to do so through the love and guidance of his friends. His friends… his friends who died making sure that he specifically would make it out, his friends who he called selfish (because they were, of course, they were, but he loved them anyway…) and silently (and loudly) judged for their ambition and hubris while he turned a blind eye to his own. The first of many blind eyes he turned.
His selfish, arrogant friends who, in the end, he saw and felt die in the most selfless, loving ways possible.
