It was supposed to be raining, he thought. In all the movies, when the hero lost someone, it was always raining. Weather to match the mood. But it wasn’t now. Now it was sunny, bright, and warm. He stared vacantly out the window, aware people were speaking to him, around him, but not comprehending anything they said. What did it matter anyway? Why did anything matter anymore?
A small, warm hand slipped into his and held tightly. The owner of the hand didn’t say anything, just stood with him in silence. They gazed outside, watching the bright sunlight slowly fade into the darker, richer tones of evening. He finally turned to the girl next to him, briefly noting the way the fading light played off the strands of her honey blonde hair.
‘They’re all gone, Rose. All of them.’ His voice caught on the words, choking him with their pain.

Sam & Jack end up stranded together on a world that has suffered a nuclear apocalypse, but that seems eerily similar to Earth (set S8 pre-Threads, AU after that). A Sam/Jack ship story that happens to be set in the darker Fallout 4 Universe (if you don't know Fallout it won't impact your enjoyment at all, just be aware the setting/characters are borrowed) Hope you enjoy the ride!
