After returning from the Take That concert in Belfast, the girls (and James) fall asleep on the bus ride home and end up in another Derry that isn't theirs, where they stumble upon their own alternate-dimension counterparts. For the most part, their counterparts aren't too different from themselves. They've got the same looks, the same voices, and pretty much the same personalities.
Except that in this world, their James isn't English. He's Irish.

“You’ve been asked to take on a child kidnapping case.” He handed him the other folders, “A twelve-year-old, a boy, was rescued from a motel room just two weeks ago,” Jack continues, “He’d been living there with an ex-monk from some monastery in South Dakota, who’d been apparently trafficking him.” Jack’s face turns grim, “Unfortunately, he’s decided to plead not guilty. The boy needs a lawyer to fight the case, make sure the bastard goes to prison. We figured you'll be able to handle this. One of the detectives on the case reccomended you. This kid's coming all the way from Montana to have you as his lawyer."
“A twelve-year-old?” Jack nods. A young child, Harold realizes, a chill washing over his skin.
Harold thinks for a second, as his eyes glaze over the pale yellow covers of the folders, “What’s his name?”
“Jude St Francis”.

Not because he wanted to hear of any more horrors inflicted on his son, but because these letters were the last words they’d have of Jude, and with their ending, they would never hear from him again.

He saunters around the kitchen and the sitting room, slowly shutting off the lights one by one. He creeps into the hallway, hands folded across his chest. He can see in the corner of his peripheral, down the hall on the right, the door to Jude’s room. There’s no light peeking out from below. He’s never known Jude to be the type to go to bed quickly. It’s something he’s known from the early days of Jude’s law school years, completing assignments that should’ve taken weeks in a matter of days, utterly relentless.

Kathy tucked a stray hair behind her ear, looking up into the car mirror as she checked her lipstick. Her lips quirked up as she saw another, albeit tinier and chubbier, face in the mirror. She turned back to look at her wee son, who was bundled in his puffy coat and sitting quietly in his carseat, gazing at the trees that passed them by.
“Are ye excited to see yer grandparents for the first time, Jamie?” Kathy asked, prompting the wain in question to look up at her. James responded with a coo, before turning back to look out the window at whatever his attention was caught on.
