One finally without the curse that defined him, and the other broken, battered, and alone. Both are haunted by the past, yet long for something that they surely don't deserve to have.
This story takes place not long after the the conclusion of the killing game. For the most part, that ending is the same as in canon. Except for a few changes which lead to the events in this story.

Nothing could stop him, the roar of blood rushing through his veins at accelerated speed, making his ears unable to pick out anything else around him. He was panting miserably again, kneeling on the uneven ground. His hands went to his shoulders to warm himself.
And in an irrational attempt to wrap his arms around himself as if he were a child. Like he was going to drown without the needed hug of his body and reassurance that everything would be okay. As if he wasn't a soldier, but a teenager who needed comfort and care.
