So grateful you are for her undivided attention that you shiver underneath her, violently enough that tears well in the corners of your eyes. But the gut-wrenching tremor that takes hold of you now is not rooted in gratitude alone. When Circe asks Melinoë to enchant one of Scylla’s Pearls so that she may ease her descents into the Underworld, she is only too happy to oblige.
The fewer obstacles between her and Chronos, the better. All the more so if said obstacles consist of a band of Sirens led by an obnoxiously annoying sea monster with delusions of grandeur who just won’t shut up. It is a no-lose situation no matter how she looks at it, not to mention both a minor prophecy and a petition from a fellow witch whom she has always looked up to, so the words leave her lips as easy as breathing.
And then, everything goes to hell.

What if Circe had been just the slightest bit more persuasive when she asked Melinoë to curse Scylla.
