Summary
It’s the same man, tall and solid, the angles of his body softened by the glow and so much easier to take in when not on the back of a stolen horse. Guillermo can smell the blood sticking to his fur collar, thick and rusty. He touches the back of the chair opposite Guillermo’s with a broad hand, tilts it back and says, “Can I sit down?”
Guillermo says, “Why are you covered in blood?”
“I fell. Can I sit?”
“Yes, of course.”
“Thank you.”

Summary
When Nandor speaks to him — when he thinks Nandor is speaking to him, rather — it sounds not quite like it’s coming from outside him, but not quite from inside his head. The seconds before his voice cuts through sound like the way Guillermo’s ears would pop on a plane; a change in pressure as the ethereal reception clears.
He decides that, imagination or not, there’s no harm in responding. It gives him something to do.

Summary
“Magnus Burnsides,” he says, “I think I might be your kid’s new coach?”
Oh.
Taako reluctantly takes the hand in front of him and gives it one up-and-down shake before letting go and tucking his hand into his armpit. “Oh, he’s not my kid.”

Summary
He doesn’t know why he isn’t more afraid. Maybe he accidentally desensitised himself to the idea of vampires existing in real life by reading too much Anne Rice in his early teens. He watched Interview With The Vampire too many times, and now he doesn’t know how to appropriately respond to a very real supernatural threat, and he’s going to be eaten right here, and his mother will find what’s left of him in the morning.
He pulls back the curtain and the man pauses mid-tap and, for some reason, smiles awkwardly at Guillermo. Guillermo’s childhood bedroom is reflected in miniature in his dark eyes, his fangs long and white like a cat’s.

Summary
“Maybe I’m imagining this, but I’m getting a feeling that you might want to kiss me,” he says, and Magnus can hear the ocean roaring in his ears.
“Was I being that obvious?” he manages a casual-sounding little laugh, like it’s no big thing. Which it isn’t.

Summary
Sometimes, Guillermo imagines what he would tell his nineteen year old self, the boy barely out of adolescence who harbored a love for vampires that bordered on reverence. On good days, he likes to think he’d give out decent advice. This is how you remove dried blood stains from clothing. This is where you’ll find the best coupons for tarp, duct tape, rope. This is the part of the backyard with the softest ground, the easiest place to bury bodies during the winter. This house, underneath its floorboards, is where you’ll bury your heart. This is how you’ll learn to live as a monster without fangs.
On bad days, he thinks he wouldn’t give his younger self any advice at all. He would have met his own starry-eyed gaze with a sad, knowing smile and given him a stake.
A character study in three parts: entrances, exits, and heartbeats.

Summary
Guillermo had been so frozen since the moment the dancer walked out on stage he thought there was a chance he might be dead. Were there vampires in the afterlife? Surely not. It was like the man had walked directly out of his most secret fantasies. As each item of clothing came off, Guillermo felt something ratchet up inside him. When he ripped his shirt off Guillermo began to get genuinely concerned that he would come in his pants surrounded by half the staff of Panera Bread.
