Summary
The first time Charles sees Max, he thinks the Dutch boy is the cutest kid he's ever seen. All soft eyes and round cheeks, Charles can't help but grin and wave at the boy when they make eye contact from across the track as Charles is milling around waiting for the start of their race while Max puts some finishing touches on his Kart.
Max smiles back, his eyes squinting with the movement, and Charles feels a warmth bloom in his chest.
He doesn't know it now, but looking back on it a few years later he'll realize that was the first time he ever felt any kind of attraction to someone.

Summary
Moving his head slowly, Nolan's eyes search for the man he'd just seen sit down at a bench across the street, and in the light of the street lamps illuminating the strip of road they're on he swears he's staring at an exact replica of Travis Konecny- or at least what he thinks Travis might look like now.
But- there's no way that's actually Travis. Because why would he be here? Last Nolan knew, Travis was still living in London with his wife and kids after retiring from the NHL himself. So unless they had decided to take a family trip to Souris, Manitoba at the same time Nolan happened to be here, there was no way that the man sitting almost directly across from Nolan on the other side of the street could be Travis Konecny.

Nolan and Travis have both been retired from the NHL for a while and haven't talked in years. When a chance meeting brings them back together, they each find that the feelings they used to have for the other man weren't as "left in the past" as they both thought.

He smiles at the little girl as she smiles at him, and watches as she leans over to pick a dandelion out of the sidewalk.
Two weeks, three days, fourteen hours.
The whisper is soft, comes on the breeze and floats behind his head, but it twists something in his gut and he nearly doubles over with the weight that knowledge brings.
He can't quite bring himself to look into her mother's eyes as he stands, but he does force a smile on his face and gives the woman a nod as he stuffs his hands in his coat pockets.
"Enjoy your time with her," is all he says before he brushes past and walks away without looking back, and he just hopes she takes his words to heart.

Because tomorrow, Charles will have to go back to pretending. Charles will have to walk back into the paddock and act like he’s an alpha, like he deserves to be there, deserves to be a Formula 1 driver in a world where omegas are seen as little more than an inconvenience.
But Charles will prove them wrong. He knew he would right from the start, the first day that he got back into a kart after he’d presented, knowing exactly what he would be up against, that the odds would always and forever be stacked against him just because of his biology. He will win. He will become the first omega World Drivers Champion. He will accept his trophy at the gala and he will take the microphone and he will tell the world that he did that, an omega, an equal. He beat a field full of alphas, but more importantly, he beat a society that has tried to tell him from day one that he would never be good enough.
