He realized why Halsin had not asked for anything in return, after Astarion had been stricken with the mushroom’s toxin. Halsin did not see healing as transactional, nor anything else he did. Halsin merely tended to his companions, like wild plants in a garden. His grove had been the same, and he seemed bothered most that he could not treat Baldur’s Gate like the overgrown pit of weeds it truly was.
Astarion was an unruly vine in Halsin’s care, and he found he liked it that way.

Astarion is so used to being used by everyone around him he can't figure out this new member of their merry band of weirdos wants. The druid is helpful, almost too helpful, but doesn't seem to just want to sleep with him. He isn't used to having someone stir up real feelings in him and he can't decide if he likes it.
All he is sure of is that he has become addicted to the taste of the man's blood, and is becoming addicted to the man himself.

“Good night Astarion.” The man rumbled. “May your trance be peaceful.”
Astarion blinked, then blinked again. That was impossible. No one turned him down, well except Tav but Tav was special. He could smell the alpha’s arousal. The man wanted him. But was already reaching for the tent flap to eject Astarion like a drunken mistake.
He blamed what he did next on his post feeding drunkenness and his desperate need to find familiar ground with the man.
He darted forward and kissed the man. Halsin froze, his hand halfway to the tent flap. Astarion had managed to surprise him, he had reasserted dominance.
He pulled away.
“Goodnight, lover.” He drawled.
The flush on Halsin’s cheeks made the whole strange encounter worth it.

“Thirty-nine,” he finally says, a bolt straight into Halsin’s heart.
