Things work differently in a small town. Yes, everyone knows everyone and people love to talk, ultimately they tend to mind their own business and not meddle in yours. Beth finds herself in an increasingly volatile situation where somehow everybody knows everything is wrong and are at a loss for what to do about it. Especially Daryl. But that doesn't mean he'll stop trying.
Altera Vita roughly translates to another life.
The quote "where somehow everybody knows everything is wrong" is from a song called Iuka by The Secret Sisters. It was partially my inspiration for this fic. Along with their song Mississippi.

I'm pretty sure at this point, I'm writing the same story just in different ways. Oh well. This has been in my Docs for a while. I thought by posting the first chapter it might make me keep writing it.
Beth, after returning home and making a life for herself and her child, Daryl's return threatens to upheave everything she's worked hard to create. Or, does it?My one shot, The Long Way Home, is kind of a prequel to this story if you want to read that one first.

Summary
In this story, Sheriff Daryl Dixon gets a call on a cold winter night about a girl who appeared seemingly out of nowhere on a desolate mountainside. Freezing, barefoot, and alone with only the clothes on her back, she can't speak and has little to no memory of her past. The more Daryl tries to help her, the more he's drawn to her. Will finding the clues to her past be to her detriment as well as their fragile bond?
Update: 6/7/2024 - I started writing this fic in May of 2019 and finished it in March of 2020 and it remains one of my favorites. For quite some time, I've been meaning to go through and rework it to fix the many plotholes and misspellings. I've finally spent the last week sprucing it up. I'm sure there are still mistakes and plotholes but let's hope there are smaller holes and fewer misspellings.
