Summary
After surviving a gunshot to the head during the events of MW3, John “Soap” MacTavish is discharged from the military with severe cognitive damage, fractured impulse control, and a growing fear of his own mind. Summary
Zeno was perplexed as he nudged the corpse of a dead spiderling with the toe of his boot. There were dozens of Titan Spinner’s spawn lying on the ground, their long spindly legs curled tightly to their bodies in death. There was no clear sign of what killed them. Only upon closer inspection did he find small puncture wounds like a sharp object had pierced the back of their heads. Others had a portion of their exterior carapace crushed from hard impact with a nearby surface. Shards of bricks and rock dust was embedded in the tiny hairs on their pale bodies.
‘Did they get into a territorial dispute with another infected?’ That didn't make any sense. There was nothing big enough or strong enough to cause the spiders any trouble. Yet this whole area was littered with the bodies.

“Closing in on the target.” The sound of their report echoed through the towering rubble of the ruins. Footsteps ricocheted all around him as sound was distorted by the environment. The cold air of night filled his lungs as Zeno ran as fast as his feet could carry him. His enhanced speed darted through the low hanging refuse like a ghost that whispered by. He ducked under loose stonework barely held intact by the bent and rusted rebar in an attempt to cut off their pursuit. He leapt across gaps that no human could traverse of their own power and scaled sheer cliffs of aged and brittle concrete like modern mountains crumbled by man's own hubris. He hoisted himself up through broken windows into old office buildings that felt like urban cave systems.
Just when he thought he was safe, the sound of footsteps would inevitably follow. No matter how high, no matter how far, they continued to catch up with him. He couldn't keep running. Hours had gone by as they continued this game yet his pursuers never tired. Their efforts didn't budge for even a moment. While Zeno prided himself for his inhuman endurance, their persistence was something to be deeply feared. And feared it was.
