Summary
That night, in the car, I realized- really, truly realized- something about myself.
I am a selfish person.Would I sacrifice everything Pam had built for herself? Throw her relationship, her plans, her dreams, all down the gutter if it meant getting to spend just a few more years playing pretend? Blushing at her from afar, laughing over stupid inside jokes, never saying the words?
Yeah. I would. Every single time.

Summary
Charlie unceremonially plops himself down onto the gravel shore and begins removing his shoes.
“Charlie?” Pim breaches.
“You ever been skinny dipping, dude? Because it’s like--it's good for you. Good for your spirit. Yeah, it’s--”
“Um.”
“No, listen--it’s natural. It’s like our natural state. Like--”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Charlie”
“Like our ancestors did this shit, like, all the time, dude.” By this point, Charlie has managed to get his socks and shoes off. He starts moving to remove his sweatshirt and a spike of anxiety shoots through Pim’s chest.
“Not while they were drunk, probably. Are you even a good swimmer?”
Charlie manages to get his sweatshirt over his head and flings it off to the side. He twists back towards Pim and turns his face up, up towards him, like a flower turns towards the sun.
“Are you?”

Summary
Charlie Dompler’s life was always the same: he would wake up at noon, shower, go to work, and then pass out either high or drunk at 2AM. The only variety he had in his life was when he hung out with his best friend, Pim, or had not-so-good sex with his girlfriend. He was okay with this. Or at least he thought he was.
Pim Pimling, on the other hand, had his life full of events. He was busy trying to get a promotion at his job, working as a Smiling Friend. Ever since he could remember, he had always felt the emotions of the people around him. Unfortunately, the person he cared about most was one of the few people he didn’t know how to help.

Summary
Charlie was now the new evening shift janitor at the middle school located exactly 3 blocks south from the Smiling Friends headquarters. Getting hired to clean the halls and bathrooms of a Title I school was not on his list of things to do after an already long day at his first job, but weird situations happen when your landlord raises the rent with little to no notice.
