    The light still doesn't make sense against his eyes, but he thinks he remembers something like color. There is a lot of color around him, and he is able to discern white and black and a great deal of something else. It's a breathtaking splash of vivacity on a new canvas, where there had been no canvas at all for so many eternities. It is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

    In a disorienting turn of luck, Xie Lian is rescued from State Preceptor Fangxin's coffin. He recovers his other senses in good time, but his sight is taking longer to return—decades with no exposure to light have weakened his capacity for it.

    His benefactor and worshiper, a wealthy and eccentric ghost named Hua Cheng, hasn't left his side for months.

    "In the distance, something caught his eye. There was an unassuming little peach tree on the side of a hill. He could feel something about it was unusual, a slight glow to it against the gloomy sky. As he drew closer he realized the tree was growing out of the massive hollow stump of an old dead one. Though it appeared ordinary, there was an energy to it- a very faint spark of the divine that drew Hua Cheng like a moth to a flame.

    He knew, whether intentional or not, this was a grave marker."

    A coffin rescue fic with an alternating PoV.
    Before he can begin to recover from his experience, Xie Lian first must accept he's actually out of the coffin. Hua Cheng wants to avenge his God, even if that's not what he would want.

    Don't worry too much about Lang Qianqiu. He'll have a bad time, but I promise I won't kill him.
