She’s exhausted. She might send a text she wouldn’t normally send. By the time Dennis gets home, the apartment is too warm, the air too heavy, and something is very wrong.

Santos watches as she turns in that direction, mouth hanging open slightly and she thinks it’s incredibly unfair for someone to look this good in fluorescent lighting. Time seems to slow down as her eyes climb down her face, the strength of her cheek bones, the sharp line of her jaw. It’s all too soon before Garcia is turning back to face her. “You still owe me a cocktail.”
