Spectre Roux Shepard died deep in the Terminus System, spaced into the cold void of an uncharted star system.
Spectre Roux Shepard woke in an antiquated clinic with the foggy memory of a raven-haired woman sinking a needle into the marine's arm.
These two statements are not contradictory.They are stranded on a quarantined planet, unwelcome and distrusted. Their grasp of their own mortality twists further into fog as dreams blur the borders of waking reality and slumbering fantasy--though either way, it is a nightmare.
"Seek paleblood to transcend the hunt."
Shepard isn't the only alien confined to this strange planet; they must seek fellow hunters through the treacherous streets of Yharnam if they are to survive long enough to learn the truth--which may well be related to the skulking Collectors, Prothean catacombs, and indoctrinated beasts that fester in the dark on the Night of the Hunt.

After blowing up the Collector Base and telling the Illusive Man to shove it where the sun don't shine, Shepard takes some time to clean up extant Cerberus cells for good measure. On one particularly snowy planet in the Terminus System, Garrus and Shepard perch in a sniper's nest to hold off an onslaught of Cerberus drones and autonomous mechs while Legion uploads a virus to the Cerberus comm system via the outpost they've secured. When the geth ally informs them the virus will take an hour for him to upload, Garrus's complaining about the cold worsens. Shepard decides to shut her turian companion up with her own personal warming exercise.

One night after calibrating in the main battery, he returns to the captain's cabin and decides to fulfill his waking dream while his girlfriends dream sound asleep.
