Felix snorts. “I don't remember brawls over collecting flowers for garlands every Garland Moon, just at the weddings they result in.” He turns slightly in the saddle. “The populace can manage this themselves. Unless you plan on coming out here yourself to pick flowers.”
“Most certainly not,” Dimitri replies seriously. “I would just ask you to pick them for me.”
Making a flower garland would be easier if Dimitri was not a king and if Felix was not currently in Fhirdiad.

Summary
Essek goes home, and there is no one waiting at his door. This should be some manner of relief. But his towers haven't felt like a safe haven for a long time now, long before errant scourgers appeared to harass him with strange questions. He misses the immediacy of that threat, prefers it over the slow and indulgent terror of whatever punishment is coming for him, someday soon.
He tells himself that he misses only that, the simplicity of being unsafe in the company of predators, and that he does not miss the company itself.
(In which a pair of scourgers shows up at Essek’s doorstep and saves him from himself.)

He hadn’t even managed to put on shoes when Charlie’s loud, desolated groan at the other end of the hotel had made him rush out of his room, and his slippers and the hems of his pyjama bottoms were slowly getting soaked through. Why the fuck had he even bothered to change? He loved Charlie (see constants no. 1-4), but even he had to admit his current discomfort was solely the result of the list of healthy bedtime rituals she’d organised for him when, allegedly, the bags under his eyes had started developing a gravitational pull.
In which Lucifer has insomnia, the hotel is moderately alive, and Alastor is in over his head.
