Jason Todd wakes up six feet under ground. Then he starts to remember how he got there. Jason escapes his coffin and remembers the words said in his fight with Bruce.
"I'm not your father Jason, I don't need a teenage rebellion from you."
Instead of searching out Bruce on his way out of the cemetery Jason wanders around Gotham in a catatonic-like state.
Years later, and with help from Talia, he manages to get into med school and start his residency. Unfortunately for him the only place that he never wanted to return to is the one place that still has available spaces to take on the beginners... and Bruce Wayne was going to give a speech to the new residents in the hospital that very day.
