Nene winces. “The surgery Rui had… it… Memory loss was one of its side effects. He really didn't want to go through with the surgery but… I guess he didn't want to die more.”
“He didn't tell anybody. I didn't find out until he was already being operated on.” Nene grits her teeth. “I don't know what he told his parents but…”
“Am I the only one he doesn't remember?” Tsukasa whispers, watching Rui talk with Rin on his phone like he often does. He didn't seem surprised at all to see her or MEIKO, and he was talking with Nene like how he usually would too… It was Tsukasa, only Tsukasa, who Rui didn't recognize at all.

When Rui told him he'd be unavailable in the coming weeks, Tsukasa thought nothing of it at first. He fully expected Rui to come back, more or less the same, but when Rui shows up again, it's without any memories of Tsukasa. Faced with a Rui that's familiar but not the same, Tsukasa promises, to himself more than to Rui, he'll get to the bottom of just why Rui forgot everything about him, and make him remember.

i want you to know i genuinely bawled my eyes out several times while reading this. from the first time rui said 'do i know you?' to the very end. i was complete tears. this is such a beautifully written, but EVIL, fic.
I continually updated my friends in a gc through every emotion i had. when Rui finally said, 'tsukasa-kun' i send a screenshot going 'HALLELUJAH' and only seconds later did i read that rui was puking up flowers again and immediately spammed 'NONONO' like. this genuinely made me go through SO many emotions
ive never been a fan of hanahaki fics, however this has 12000% changed my point of view on it. though after how many tears i shedded, i dont think i could go through the torment of reading a hanahaki fic eved again 😭😭😭
ALSO i love how you characterized everyone!!!! YOU DID IT SO WELL 🥹🥹 please never ever stop writing. your fics bring me so much joy (and tears).
and the confession scene. where tsukasa poured his heart. i started bawling like a baby. it was so beautifully written. with rui's reaction and responses, everything about it. im so fucking glad this had a good ending. i dont think my heart wouldve been able to take it if rui had died or never remembered him.
anyway, once again i loved this fic. NEVER stop writing and continue to post more and bring me more tears. (i still cry over the tale of prince tsukasa mind you) your writing is so amazing. if you ever planned to become a full time author, i wouldnt blame you, because your fics are always so well written.
they always hit deepest in my heart and make me feel so much. you're genuinely like a treasure in the ruikasa tag. the second i see your user pop up on the tag i immediately click it and start reading.
ill be honest, i didnt even read the tags at first from how excited i was 😭😭 then i looked back and went "oh my god. its hanahaki. oh mt god there's memory loss. OH MY GOD" 😭 lots of emotions right there lol
